Our curriculum this year has been wide ranging. In the Autumn term we listened to stories about people who help us and had a visit from the Mobile Library.
The Spring term saw us focusing on new life and growth. We grew cress and measured ourselves on a height chart. Our role play area was a shoe shop and we had great fun measuring each others feet.
Before Easter with the aid of resources from Cambridgeshire County Council’s Road Safety Unit, we talked about keeping safe and looking after ourselves on the road. We even made some traffic light biscuits which were very tasty as well as informative.
We then went on to talk about healthy eating. We discussed a variety of vegetables and discussed how they grew. Then we prepared them for a nutritious vegetable soup. We also made potato prints from potatoes cut into interesting shapes.
We listened to the story of ‘Handa’s Surprise’ about a little African girl who travelled to see her friend with a basket of fruit on her head. We talked about the story and what happened to hand’s fruit and then made a smoothie and fruit salad using the fruit.
The second part of the Spring term we did some activities about and using our five senses including spotting things on a Spring walk, making musical instruments, a teeth cleaning exercise and Kim’s game.
During the Summer term we used our map of the world and the globe to find out about different countries, focusing particularly on those taking part in the World Cup. We had our own table football tournament which the children really enjoyed. We also learnt about where we live and we all wrote a message or drew a picture on a postcard which we took to the village post box to post.
As the Big Toddle was on a pirate theme this year we learnt a few new songs about the sea, made pirate hats to wear during the toddle and made boats which we tried out in the water tray.
The year was brought to a close by a very successful sports day on the village green followed by a party where we said a fond farewell to our school risers.
